Q01Why not just give HR a User Administrator role in M365?

Because the Admin Center wasn’t built for non-IT staff. It exposes hundreds of settings they don’t need, plus a few that could break things if clicked by mistake. UserDesk gives them a focused interface for the specific tasks you want delegated — and nothing else.

Q02What permissions does UserDesk need?

UserDesk uses Microsoft’s standard OAuth with delegated permissions — User.ReadWrite.All, Directory.ReadWrite.All, and Group.ReadWrite.All. It acts on behalf of the signed-in user and never stores passwords or has standing access outside of active sessions.

Q03Is my data safe?

Yes. UserDesk never stores passwords, access tokens, or API keys in our database. Authentication is handled entirely by Microsoft’s OAuth flow, and tokens are encrypted in your browser’s session cookie — not on our servers. Even if our database were fully compromised, attackers cannot access your Microsoft 365 tenant.

Q04Can I control what my delegates can do?

Absolutely. UserDesk has three roles: Admin (full access), Member (can manage users and groups), and Viewer (read-only). Admins control who gets what role from the Settings page.
